Dietetic Internship involving pre-diabetes screening. There are over 81 million people in the United States who have pre-diabetes and do not know about it because the symptoms do not occur until at least half their beta cells have stopped producing insulin, making type 2 diabetes inevitable. By doing pre-diabetes this summer my purpose was to prevent those developing diabetes with the information necessary on healthly eating, physical activity, and reducing high blood pressure to prevent their development of diabetes. Reviewing patient's BMI, BP, and conducting the survey allows me to emphasize the importance of health and also gives me the opportunity to assist patients in setting obtainable health, nutrition, and physical activity goals.
