Served as an advocate for child and adult survivors of sexual assault from a variety of backgrounds (e.g. migrant workers, refugees, homeless individuals, and survivors of domestic violence). Counseled sexual assault survivors in person before and after medical exams were completed and assisted medical staff with sexual assault medical examinations. Provided crisis intervention for survivors of sexual assault and their families, as well as referrals to local resources in the community and follow-up support for survivors. I was selected as one of 8 REU research students from over 200 applicants to participate in the 1st cohort of the NSF REU at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. I gained an appreciation for Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) and community based research.
