I spent the month of July working as a summer intern at the Lewisham based boutique firm, Francis Solicitors. During my internship, I worked with counsel and attended a court hearing with a client. I gained experience in holding conferences with clients, I found damages for a client in a personal injury matter which was successfully claimed. The solicitors and I also successfully won a debt claim on behalf of one of the clients. Furthermore, I updated and made recommendations to the changes being made to the firm's website and wrote an article for its news page.

This will be achieved through the knowledge and expertise offered by the various speakers from wide-ranging spheres and industries.

I was able to gain insight on how Slaughter and May function within the legal sector as well as their ability to create their own niche within the highly competitive magic circle firms. I understood in greater detail their culture as a firm through my conversations with various trainee solicitors, solicitors, associates and partners in the firm. Moreover, I was opportune to have a crash course on how acquisitions and mergers are achieved by firms through contract law and the dynamics of vertical and horizontal mergers and acquisitions.
