As a Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning Consultant, Mr. Achar serves to generate data driven insights for business model development at agriBORA. He authors tools to collect feedback from farmers, consolidate responses from surveys and USSD interactions and generate reports used for business modeling. His role as a research consultant include leading the design and execution of surveys and report writing for various projects for instance for clients like the EU, JRC, IFAD, AGRA and Heifer International. Fredrick therefore, carries out in-depth literature reviews for scoping studies, designs and programmes questionnaires on SurveyCTO, prepares budgets, sampling, recruits and trained enumerators, coordinates and supervises data collection, performs data quality checks, data cleaning and report writing. He is skilled in physical and virtual surveys, for individual, household and group interviews. Fredrick is thus an expert in KIIs, FGDs, SSIIS and structured individual interviews using closed ended questionnaires. Moreover, Mr. Achar also takes lead in international assignments for instance he is currently in liaison with public and private sector stakeholders in the digital ecosystem in Ghana, Mozambique, Mali, Zambia and Nigeria for a project done for AGRA. Mr. Achar supported in various projects by CIMMYT, IFPRI and IFAD including: - Assessing Impacts of IFAD’s Upper Tana Catchment Natural Resource Management Project (UTaNRMP) on Poverty Reduction and Natural Resource Management in Kenya (IFPRI/IFAD in 10 counties). Here he was managing a team of 36 enumerators and 6 supervisors, coordinating them to collect data for 1900 sampled households, 420 community FGDs and 52 KIIs and SSIIs. The survey was done on Survey Solutions app and he participated in designing the tool, daily data reviews and writing the technical field report. - Assessment of Desert Locusts Impact on Agricultural Productivity Survey (CIMMYT – marginal, pastoralists and high potential areas in Kenya). The survey was done by phone (FGDs and household interviews). Fredrick’s roles were to acquire contacts in the survey areas, screen for sampling qualifications, book individuals and groups for interviews, train enumerators, supervise the data collection and write the end of field report. - CIMMYT SPTA On-Farm Trials 2021 Farmer Evaluation (Phone survey - Embu and Kakamega). The study on the on-farm farmer evaluation of 50% female non-pollinated maize varieties on the Seed Production Technology for Africa (SPTA) project was designed by CIMMYT and Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO). For the 3-phased farmer evaluation, Kula Vyema Centre of Food Economics (KVC) was contracted and Mr. Achar under KVC trained enumerators, supervised data collection, disbursed farmer tokens and wrote final field report. - Nutrition in City Ecosystems (NICE) Scoping Study in Busia and Bungoma Towns. As a field supervisor Mr. Achar was responsible for identification and sampling of villages within the urban and peri-urban areas, coordination with community contacts persons, and guiding on sampling, enumerator training, pretest and recap; daily data scrutiny for quality.
