Research and development role. Developed a new product from start to finish called the Russell "Vibrastop", including research, prototype production, design for volume manufacture and managing compliance including IP66 testing, EMC compliance and CE certification. The Product was marketed as "a revolutionary enhancement for vibratory sieves". It's primary function was to stop a three phase motor almost instantaneously (less than one second), rather than conventionally allowing the motor to stop naturally in typically 20-30 seconds for example. When allowing to stop freely, the sieves would go through significant vibration, movement and stress. By bypassing the sieves resonant frequency, it was possible to avoid this and improve the usability and equipment life of the sieve and connected equipment. Also developed and designed a new sieve with significantly improved sealing and easy to service and clean clamping mechanism. Show less

Worked during Summer Vacation and was invited back to work there (during Easter and Summer vacations). · Designing machinery, primarily for the assembly of components in the manufacturing industry (i.e. automotive, consumer products, etc...), using 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor V10, V11 & 2008). · Drawing pneumatic and electrical schematics for the workstation solutions designed. · Ordering components and ensuring manufacture of designed parts by means of sub-contracting to china or in-house manufacture. · Meetings held with customers (ITW highlands, Dyson, Hashimoto, Arvin Meritor, Schneider, Federal Mogul...) for design approval and regular design reviews with manufacturing engineers to ensure standards and targets were met for the assembly of the designed machinery. Worked during Summer Vacation and was invited back to work there (during Easter vacation). · Designing and developing existing products within the marine industry (including Bridge Controls, Alarms, Telegraphs, Watch Keeper Safety systems, Tachometer systems...), using 2D (AutoCAD LT 2000i) and 3D (Autodesk Inventor V10) CAD software. · Designing radio modules for existing smoke detector (vehicle emission meter) products, to allow for wireless transmission of data, by analysing the effects of orientation, concealment and crucially the polarisation of the transmitter on the signal strength obtained by the receiver. · Testing acoustic (sound insulation) material used to conceal (reduce) engine noise, using a Temma sound level meter to measure the outside noise level of an acoustically enclosed frequency generator. · Design reviews held regularly, discussing design developments and potential for maximising profits.
