I've really enjoyed working with Fred over the ~4 years we worked together at Morgan Stanley. He is a great software engineer: he is fluent in multiple programming languages, can handle any infra and is a real DevOps champion. During our time working together I have seen him pick up new skills and apply them effectively to real problems at an amazing pace. But more importantly, working with him on multiple projects I have seen him adding so much value by thinking at the big picture level. He's able to understand the context of the problem and provide valuable input to create an effective solution whether it is challenging current plans, highlighting issues in the existing architecture or more often than not bringing his own solutions and ideas to the table and driving them forward all the way throughout the implementation and rollout. When Fred decided to start building his startup LocoVoco, he asked me to help. I was a sounding board for him as he shaped the initial idea. We worked together on the initial concept, research, design and development. (I worked with Fred on a previous project to build a custom E-commerce / CMS system. We worked well together back then and it was a pleasure to work with him again.) Fred is a very focussed and hard working person. He always executes and delivers on his commitments. While building LocoVoco, his focus has been to ship a product and collect user feedback as early as possible. He can balance his clear vision of the product on the one hand with keeping an open mind to truly listen to what users want on the other. It has been impressive to watch him learn IOS development from scratch to turn his idea into reality.
