After volunteering with the RVS beginning in 2014, I am a paid service assistant who is responsible for opening and closing the café on Saturdays. Other responsibilities include processing deliveries and invoices, training, supervising and managing volunteers and cash handling, till reconciliation and banking. I enjoy working with a team of volunteers as I am able to communicate effectively and delegate tasks to ensure excellent customer service, as well as working well under pressure. I was responsible for researching retention periods for records held by the Trust and using this research to create an updated Records Retention policy and schedule, complying with GDPR legislation, to be used by employees/volunteers. I also created a guidance note on the general rules surrounding copyright law to be issued to employees and volunteers of the Trust. I used my own knowledge from the Intellectual Property course I studied at university and conducted further research to create the guidance. In relation to copyright, I was asked to research the legality of using images pulled across from visitors Instagram posts on the National Trust for Scotland’s website. I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with the National Trust for Scotland, as I felt a welcomed member of the team and met many interesting people. I was able to utilise and enhance my research skills which will be useful in my fourth year and future career. This experience also gave me an insight into the workings of in-house lawyers and the challenges the Trust currently faces. Show less

I carried out administrative tasks such as archiving and filing and assisting with Executries. This involved gathering and complying the bank letters and account details for Confirmation, which I then used to complete a draft C1 Confirmation form. I was also involved in drafting a Will from client instructions. This was an invaluable experience as I was able to shadow solicitors in client meetings, giving me a greater insight into the private client department. Furthermore, I was able to use knowledge acquired at university in real life cases. Show less

During S6 I undertook work experience which involved me carrying out administrative tasks such as archiving and filing, as well as helping to organise court productions. Furthermore, I assisted with IT issues which arose and set up new computer software for a new solicitor. This experience was useful in giving a greater insight into the structure and workings of a high street firm. It was also helpful in confirming my choice to study Law at university.
