In a non-academic setting, I would be called a Business Development officer. I attend various conferences and meetings in the Central Mississipp area as well as individual appointments detailing the services of the Institute and disseminating current studies on various topics. Additionally, I am the convener of the Stennis Capitol Press Forums. These forums bring statewide elected officials to a small group setting where they talk on various topics and then take questions from various media outlets. During the year, I also act as both the Project Manager of the State Executive Development Institute (SEDI) and the State Director for the Family Impact Seminars. For SEDI, I organize a week long training for state employees. Held on the campus, participants in the selected class cover as many as 40 topics ranging from email to Performance Management as well as presenting topical casework. The Family Impact project is a consortium of Universities throughout the nation working on legislative training opportunities on topics related to families. Show less

As an independent consultant, I negotiated the financing for large commercial real estate projects including apartments, mixed use properties, and retail outlets. Southeast Realty took on both the negotiations as well as the analysis of a projects financials. Through my network of Insurance companies, retirement funds, and private equity, I was able to avoid a lot of the 2008 financial market downturn for my clients. During the downturn, I used my experience to consult with local banking institutions and work to refinance or sell distressed assets. Show less

As a partner, I was tasked with building a lending network of insurance companies, Wall St firms, and pension plans to provide funding for large commercial real estate projects. Commercial Funding Group was unique in that while we had large commercial transaction experience, we did not come from the mortgage banking world. Several times, this story was recognized nationally by our association and our individual lenders.
