PWC provides these young men with individualized counseling, group counseling, and full classroom intervention. As a social work intern, I maintains a caseload of six students who meet with me for individualized counseling and three students who meet for case management sessions. In addition to this work, I help facilitate two weekly group sessions: Job Readiness and Real Life Real Talk. The Job Readiness group is designed to help students prepare for work related skills and competencies, such as resume-writing, interview skills, and financial literacy. Real Life Real Talk is more of a discussion group where students are given the space to reflect on the different ways in which their immediate environment and media influences their own personal decision making. In addition, I operate in an administrative capacity through my work on a year-long community service initiative with participants in the Mentoring for R.E.A.L. (Resilience, Education, Attendance, and Leadership) program.
