It’s one thing to be a visionary, but it’s another to be someone who sees beyond the vision and can make it happen. Frank Dionisi is both, and is doing it for a second time. Point 3 Biotech was founded by Dionisi and James Irwin in July 2018 to research and produce sustainable biotechnology products with immediate and future markets. The company has three main areas of research—microalgae, zero-waste agriculture and terpenes. Terpenes are one of the key components in cannabis, alongside THC and CBD, and are potent compounds with a wide range of medicinal properties. Point 3 has moved quickly to market with their OnPoint terpene formulations, which are on track for white-label distribution this spring. As Point 3’s Chief Strategy Officer, Dionisi is in an ideal role, given his history of designing and executing new technology. His first big success was the development of The Bridge Network’s Tracker, a dental-practice management system that is still going strong after nearly 30 years. Dionisi conceived the idea in the early 1990s while waiting for a dental appointment and observing the cumbersome Unix and DOS-based computer systems that the office’s staff were using. Show less

Developers of Tracker, the first Canadian dental program written exclusively for Microsoft Windows. Frank Dionisi was a University of Waterloo math, business and computer science graduate. During his studies and first career years in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he had followed Bill Gates’ work, in particular the development a new GUI system—later known as the Windows operating system. At his dentist appointment, Dionisi made the connection that the Windows graphic interface could be leveraged to simplify dental offices’ tasks and enable non-technical users to learn and work more efficiently. He went on to found The Bridge Network in 1992 when Unix and DOS had the majority of the market share, and Dionisi’s Windows-based Tracker quickly became a market leader. Today, Tracker continues to be a strong, popular system, evolving in its offerings and compatibilities. While Dionisi is no longer involved in the day-to-day operations of The Bridge Network, he remains a co-owner and has used some of the profits to support other novel research. This includes Irwin’s work with microalgae and the development of Regenurex astaxanthin, the profits from which helped fund the founding of Point 3 Biotech. Show less
