    • Postmaster
      • 1992 - 2004

After a postal reorganization in 1992, my position at the Brooklyn PO was divided into two functional areas. I was tasked to take over Jersey City which had been under performing in every aspect. After assembling a team of new managers and supervisors, renovating a facility while operations continued, building a new post office to relieve overcrowding in one station, we realized a significant cost reduction in salary and benefits and service goals rose from the bottom into the top performing offices in Northern New Jersey. We realized significant reduction in work hours, overtime, sick leave abuse, lost time injuries while gaining buy in from all three unions. Employee recognition programs were created and enforcement of the CBA were positive steps to contribute to a complete turnaround. We hired career letter carriers in place of temp employees and reduced total on roll employees from appx 556 employees to about 504 employees. All the while possible deliveries increased with the influx of new companies leaving the NYC financial area to do business in Jersey City and with development of the waterfront with business and residential buildings the JCPO kept on plan to absorb the workload while reducing hours and maintaining service. • Director of Operations
      • Aug 1987 - Dec 1991

Reported directly to the Postmaster of Brooklyn NY. Responsible to oversee and manage all delivery and retail operations, all mail processing operations, all maintenance of equipment and buildings and all vehicles in our fleet through four functional managers and their staffs. We consolidated two mail processing facilities into a new and modern mail processing facility and relocated all support personnel to the new facility. Through consolidations, temporary employees and career positions were greatly reduced and over 1 million work hours were reduced in a two to three year period. Service performance improved and new business and residential building were on the rise during a time when the Brooklyn post office was reducing cost by controlling overtime, sick leave and injury compensation claims. Prior to 1987 work various supervisor and manager positions in Operations and worked on Northeast District teams. Began career as a clerk/carrier in 1973 and was promoted in 1977 to initial level supervisor position. Show less
