Key Responsibilities • Reviewing ecological survey reports and Biodiversity Mitigation and Enhancement Plans (BMEPs) submitted with planning applications to ensure developments comply with the Dorset Biodiversity Appraisal Protocol and secure an overall net gain for biodiversity. • Determining whether planning applicants require ecological surveys by assessing impacts of development to biodiversity interests. Key Responsibilities • Cataloguing Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT) assessments uploaded to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) by countries from their GEF-funded protected area projects in the METT database, using MS Access, Excel, and R. • Carrying out data quality checks and compiling a report detailing the degrees of completeness of the METT assessments, analysis and recommendations for submission to the GEF. • Reviewing the METT database and finding ways to streamline it to facilitate analysis by the centre and third parties. • Assisting programme officers with GIS tasks relating to the World Database for Protected Areas (WDPA).

Key Responsibilities • Conducting a literature review of Poole Harbour’s littoral habitat and species for the 2017 Condition Assessment for Natural England. • Gathering mud core samples of Poole Harbour’s littoral sediment and analysing them in a laboratory for marine invertebrate counts and identification. • Analysing the results using Primer 7 to calculate spatial and temporal differences between sample sites and used AMBI software to calculate the AMBI index for each site to determine disturbance. • Mapping the littoral biotopes and sample sites using ArcGIS for the Condition Assessment.
