At The New Forests Company I started as a Planning Forester. I was based in Johannesburg and was given the responsibility to manage all planning teams in all our relevant territories (Uganda, Tanzania and Mozambique). Main duties were ensuring that all marking for thinning, survival counts, GPS work and several planning functions were happening timeously. Updating Microforest with all relevant information as well. As time went on and the business started to expand the company needs started to change. It was starting to get difficult to work from Johannesburg and only travel to the different territories every three months. I was then given the opportunity of a promotion to Planning Manager based in Tanzania. This was to ensure that I would be more available to the growing operational needs. My duties also changed as I became responsible for all planning functions in Tanzania and Mozambique reporting to the Head of Planning in Uganda. I also got the added duties of all GIS map work for Tanzania and Mozambique. The company had roughly the following ha’s in the relevant countries at that stage:  Uganda 12088 ha  Tanzania 4700 ha  Mozambique 3285 ha The company was still expanding, and the yearly added ha’s varied based on available land. Due to the yearly increase in area a lot of mapping had to be done to keep GIS and Microforest up to date with relevant information. Show less

I was employed as a Forester at FORM Ghana. The company mainly planted Teak (Tectona grandis) but also aimed in planting a minimum of 10% indigenous tree species. My main responsibility was to serve as an assistant to the general manager in all relevant operations. In 2011 the company prepared and planted a total area of 1000 ha. The total area planted and maintained by the company at that point in time was about 2500 ha. The company also had its own nursery which produced all the Teak needed for planting. Show less
