Online Communications and Marketing Officer
-
Jan 2019 - Jun 2019
I was in charge of online communications and the company’s social media presence. I recruited participants and built relationships with them via email and phone communication, wrote and scheduled marketing outreach campaigns on MailChimp, kept all of our existing and new contacts organized, and manage our campus ambassadors at universities around the world. Additionally, I create all of the content and schedule the posts for the company’s Facebook and Instagram, and introduced a bi-weekly newsletter that helps to educate our participants about our programs, give them updates on the company, and shared cultural information about China. I designed, found content, and wrote all of the newsletters independently. As we were a small team, I had to take charge of a lot of tasks around the office, and was constantly multitasking on long-term strategies and assignments as well as daily office responsibilities, such as organizing our contact lists in Excel, and scheduling and coordinating all of our tasks and office meetings in Trello.

Honeybrains is a café in Nolita that takes a scientific-level focus on health and nutrition. Being a new store, with very specific branding, I had to show ingenuity in maintaining customers and sales, while also supporting their social media strategy. I provided comprehensive and energetic customer service by taking and serving orders quickly and efficiently, and building customer relationships in a fast-paced environment. I also handled various managerial-level responsibilities, including opening and closing store and training new employees.

While studying abroad in Shanghai, China, I interned at FirstBuild (a GE Appliances subsidiary), the first GE-equipped innovation lab and micro-factory in Asia. My main role was to help create the marketing campaign for FirstBuild Shanghai. I worked directly with the Marketing Manager, and my duties involved developing the company's English brand-story for English speakers in China, creating marketing materials such as posters and swag, helping to design the brand's WeChat account (WeChat is the Chinese version of Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Messenger), and spreading information about the brand.

At Tiger Oak Media, my main role was to conduct research and write articles for a variety of community lifestyle magazines in the greater Twin-Cities area of Minnesota. The articles would include features on local businesses, interviews with business owners and community members, and stories on community events. In addition to writing, I also discovered, tracked, and promoted local cultural events and made monthly event calendars for multiple cities. Other duties included performing fact-checks, conducting in-person and phone interviews, and communicating frequently with contacts in order to ensure accurate information.
