Feb 2014 - May 2015
Whilst working for Concorde BGW I have completed and handed over five successful projects, in a very fast environment dealing directly with the client. Working within a design and build team has streamlined the way in which I work by understanding the build process and working alongside the manufacturers from joinery, metalwork to custom furniture pieces. Having sole ownership of each project through all deign stages then working with the build team from pre start and throughout the build. Some key functions of the role include: • Produce concept presentations and design packages using a variety of computer programs. • Manage projects through all stages from design and build keeping the client and design manager in the loop. • Cost, source and specify FF&E, compile into schedules and keep within budget. • Communicate design with QS, PM and build teams. • Source unique furniture pices and bric a brac from reclamation yards and fairs. When I started at Richmond I began working on the new P&O cruise ship Britannia, which has enabled me to adapt into the various sectors of design within one project however this was predominantly in the hospitality sector. I had to learn microstaion from the ground up which I felt I picked up quickly, with ease and proved to myself that I can adapt and learn new computer software with ease. Working for a larger company like Richmond has given me an insight of both how large scale jobs are executed and how these are managed on a daily basis, working here gave me time to meticulously look at detailed elements in more depth. I attended regular CPD with various manufacturers from tiles to bathroom products to new innovative applications. Some key functions of the role include: • Assisting with the production of drawing packages and detailed specification. • Coordinate with catering and lighting consultants, visualisers and P&O new build consultants. • Selection of appropriate finishes in lieu of over specified materials at cost evaluation stages of the process. • Leasing with FF&E designers on lighting, furniture and soft finishes. • Responding to queries and issues from the appointed contractor and supplying further information and research. I began working for design LSM as a placement student before my final year at university, I was later asked to return on a permanent basis upon completing my degree. Working within a small design team on a variety of hospitality schemes at different stages has provided me with a strong understanding of the design process and with an improved knowledge in construction detailing. Key function of the role include: • Assisting the team in the development of concepts and compiling of sketch scheme presentations using indesign. • Drafting and issuing of drawing packages to contractors, clients and co consultants. • Using Photoshop to create interior visuals. • Using AutoCAD to draw up plans, details and elevations for construction and client approval. • Consulting with furniture and lighting specialists to draft up quotes for clients. • Site visits and client consultations in development stages and at snagging stages of the design process. • Specifying and researching of appropriate materials, finishes and fixtures for schemes. • Issuing of tender packages to contractors and leasing with QS and CDM. • Submitting planning applications and coordination with planning officers.
