I was responsible for undertaking statistical analyses, including analyses of clinical outcome and prognostic factors, in response to requests from government, the media, UK Transplant staff, the transplant community, health authorities and other transplant professionals. These analyses included using SAS to manipulate a number of large databases, exploring various statistical techniques and displaying the required information in a clear and concise form. I undertook a variety of SAS based projects for specific organ areas within the directorate which included matching datasets, survival analysis and logistic regression. Show less

The largest piece of work that I delivered was a project to improve the detailed forecasting system that DASA uses to predict the future behaviour of price indices. The project involved selecting and subsequently using a number of complex modelling techniques (many of which I had no previous knowledge) and various software packages including Microfit, Minitab, Lotus, Excel, SAS, Statistica and SPSS. I had sole responsibility for the project and was pro-active in managing my time and organising the workload efficiently in order to meet demanding deadlines. I produced a substantial report of my findings, which included an in-depth explanation of the designs used and recommendations for the future. Many of my recommendations were accepted and I devised a method of adapting the current forecasting system. Many team members were not statistical so I spent time explaining the statistical concepts involved in changing the current system, to a number of colleagues. As part of the new system I introduced a new piece of mathematical software into the branch, which, following a software trial exercise, I had chosen as being the most effective for the job. I single-handedly taught myself how to use the package and built up a good relationship with the software makers. I subsequently taught my predecessors the workings of the package and the new system.
