Kabul river basin area is 108,441 square kilometers. This river basin constitutes 36 percent of the total water capacity of Afghanistan. The average annual rainfall in this area is 378 mm. The main challenge in the Kabul river basin is unbalancing between sources and consumption because most of the population lives in the upper part of the area, which unfortunately has the least water, in contrast to the most water in the lower part where the least population is there. The total population of the Kabul River Basin is 12.4 million people a. It has 1.73 million hectares of agricultural areas, including forests, orchards, etc. Job Description of Kabul River Basin General Directory Implement IWRM and Sustainable Development Goals especially SDG6 in 14 Sub River Basin. Perform needs assessments, and set priorities, and activities according to a program-based budgeting system in order to achieve the strategic goals of NWARA. Management of storing, distribution, and allocation of water in the relevant area to users for various purposes regarding economic rationality. Management of the preparation and implementation of the master plan of the sub river basins and river basin according to water resource status, preparing short-term and medium-term investment plans. Monitoring of the survey, design, and technical studies of water infrastructure. Management to resolve water disputes, establish associations, and maintain water facilities. Management of natural disaster forecasting and warning systems (drought, flood) in relevant sub-river basins. Ensuring transparency and accountability of the projects.
