Till Bovermann

Florian was my colleague at Bielefeld University in the Ambient Intelligence Research group from 2009 – 2011. Among other things, we collaborated on a project on vocal synthesis in the SuperCollider programming language. It was a joyful experience that included not only development work but also fruitful discussions on both art- and technology-related topics. Furthermore, we jointly lectured at the Q study program of Hamburg City University where we taught a sonification and auditory display course. Florian is an experienced new media artist with a particular talent to identify aspects of technology that are especially valuable in their relevance in artistic contexts. Beyond working with him on practical projects, I appreciated the many discussions we had on situating new media art ideas in the larger scope of creative technologies and artistic productions. Overall, working together with Florian in new media research and teaching was a great experience.

I met Florian in 2008, during a conference in Basel while I was working on my doctorate. Ever since, we had many insightful discussions on the cross-section between non-linear dynamical systems and contemporary / new media art. I appreciate Florian's knowledge of the theory of non linear dynamical systems and how he can find pertinent links to issues of contemporary media art. While many of his artistic works are inspired by his scientific background, they all reach beyond a mere illustration of facts and genuinely touch issues related to performativity and representation. In all collaborations, Florian was always open to share and transmit his knowledge and I can recommend him with no restriction for any teaching related position.
