SUM (Symbiotic Urban Movement) is a student team from the TU Delft. SUM took part in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2022 with other universities from Europe and beyond, to design and develop highly energy-efficient solar-powered dwellings. Besides, it focussed on the transition of the existing urban building stock. The team succeeded in realising their design and engineering ideas in an actual 'prototype': a house of 100 m2. As an energy analysis and building control engineer, I worked alongside my studies in the systems team on simulating and optimising our energy consumption pattern, together with the installation and programming of an actual monitoring and control system. Although the team was leading the competition till the final ceremony, the architectural jury ultimately decided on a third place. After all, it was very inspiring project, one to be proud on.
