    • Youth Leader (Teacher)
      • Dec 2015 - Mar 2016

Details: 'Literacy Through Leadership' is an initiative to connect two major groups of future leaders of Bangladesh: the students from top universities in Dhaka and the school-going students from under-resourced communities.By becoming a part of LTL, the university students, or Youth Leaders, spend given hours in-between their courses, in the neighboring communities, to impart literacy skills amongst the school students, or Young Leaders. The Young Leaders are receiving literacy skills, specifically in English, which will boost their performance in their exams, and also give them the competitive edge for achieving their dreams, which are, most of the time, unaccomplished or forgotten, due to such a demanding life they must face. These groups come together in a learning center within the community, during their common free time, in the afternoon. The Youth Leaders are getting a unique platform to practice leadership, which they learn about in textbooks. They are involving themselves in a very challenging community, with specific goals to meet, and are putting themselves on a journey to change the future of children, with lasting impact. Both groups are set to transform the lives of the other. 'LTL' was initially started as a Community-Action-Project of two Teach For Bangladesh Fellows, Almeer Ahsan Asif and Maliha Ahsan, both from TFB's first cohort. They had served two years teaching and changing the life-trajectory of students from Amtoli Staff Welfare Government Primary School. With the help of IEEE-Student Branch of American International University, Bangladesh (AIUB), they are finally reaching their dream of their students receiving an excellent education. Roles: Contributed 78 hours, in a 13 weeks’ period, 6 hours per week to improve 40 Primary School students’ English Reading and writing skills. Show less
