Worked in Asst/Prof Christine Wong Siu Ling's lab: Studied the biological pathways associated with Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs) and its impact on diabetes with the end goal of developing a drug to alleviate the conditions of the said disease. Have identified a few biomolecules that influenced NETs formation, and it's probable link to hyperglycemic condition. Given the opportunity to set up the lab from the ground up and maintain the lab. Created and implemented a lab management system (e.g. procurement system, animal husbandry, safety system and data management system etc.) to ensure efficient research workflow in Wong's lab. Was chosen to be the safety officer and since the the inception of the lab, has received good reviews for the monthly safety inspection/audit. Handled the inventory and procurement of the lab, and directly liaising with suppliers to ensure materials/equipment were procured successfully within the stipulated time. Worked on several projects as well as collaborating with other member's in their own projects. Planned and executed experiments with the data collection and critical analysis done in a timely manner. Worked with animal experiments in compliance to Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) guidelines. Organized internal and external lab meetings and presented when needed. Trained all lab members (as well as others) i.e. MBBS student, PhD student, research assistant, and research fellow. Show less

Worked in Asst/Prof Xu Chenjie's nanomedicine lab. Along with a PhD student, spearheaded a translational medical research project with National Dental Centre of Singapore (NDCS) as one of our main collaborators. Developed and executed several animal studies (for pre-clinical trials) with the help of clinicians from NDCS, handled most of the data acquired and analysed it to be used in the manuscript in an upcoming journal. In addition to this, a provisional patent was secured out of it. Show less

Along with a PhD mentor and a clinician-scientist, researched on the effect of cerebral ischemia in photo-thrombotic rat models. In addition to that, voluntarily took up several side projects to assist other lab colleagues. For the main project, made a poster and presented it in a poster presentation seminar. Also had the responsibility to guide a fellow lab intern in the course of the internship. Experienced working in a medical start-up company in Singapore. Led a main project which is to develop a working medical prototype device for its intended usage in chronic kidney disease patients. Also, contributed in several other projects in the company. Mentored by CEO James Lim and COO Yanling Toh directly. This project is completely new and was very fortunate to spearhead this project with another fellow intern. Managed to generate a detailed project plan and timely report if need be, surveyed current markets, attempted to do a comprehensive patent search and executing the actual project itself. In the course of the medical device prototyping, managed to learn and get exposed to the medical device regulatory framework and its application- this includes several standards such as ISO13485, CISPR 11, FDA (510k) and CE marking. Also, worked with several consultants and contractors to develop the device. Given the responsibility to handle the logistics and data of several clinical studies done overseas (some locally too). Was grateful to be able to work and interacted closely with chronic kidney patients in local kidney dialysis centers as well as the nurses there. Show less

Had the opportunity to co-coach hockey to about 30 serious students at my alma mater. Most of the participants did not have any prior experience of the sport which was a big obstacle then but that made me developed my teaching skills and devised several plans that aided in the development of the new sport in them.
