Hill Top Preparatory School is a middle school and high school specifically designed for students with learning differences and social/emotional struggles. The majority of students at the school have a diagnosis of ADHD and/or ASD, and the school excellently curates an environment most suited for their students. My roles at the school included involvement with Social Emotional Learning (SEL), assisting group counseling sessions, individual 1-on-1 sessions with students to work on Social Thinking and Behavior Mapping, helping to lead an LGBTQ+ activism and support group at the school, classroom behavioral observations, creating a seasonal Clinical Department Newsletter to disperse to all faculty, students, and parents, holding college Q&A sessions for upper school students, helping monitor lunch periods and assisting in activity periods. The internship was an amazing opportunity to gain experience in working with students with neurodevelopmental disorders from both the educational aspect and the emotional aspect of such diagnoses. Additionally, it was an excellent hands-on experience with mental health interventions of adolescents and teens. Show less
