I was fortunate to work with Fiona who is a great coach and an outstanding mentor. I was impressed by Fiona’s ability to handle any situation calmly and patiently, even with the toughest clients. Her honesty and empathy make a unique combination as a HR professional that has helped to make a strong impact on business. She is one of the most dedicated professionals I’ve worked with and is willing to offer extra help whenever you need it. As a Human resource professional and leader, Fiona earns my highest recommendation.

Fiona truly excelled in her role managing HR in the Western Region for Reliance Home Comfort. During her time with the team Fiona exhibited a tireless work ethic and an unmatched passion for the business. Fiona provided guidance to each of the managers in our region. Whether it was struggling with day to day issues or implementing process improvements Fiona could be counted on to both lead and lend a hand. I appreciate the immense positive impact that Fiona left on the business and look forward to following her career growth.

As part of the Organizational Development team, I provided overall strategic human resources leadership to the eastern and western operations of the organization. In these roles, I wore several hats: strategic partner, trusted advisor, change agent, coach, and people leader. I partnered with the Vice-President and General Managers to develop and implement strategies to achieve people and organizational objectives, while supporting recommendations with data, facts, and analysis. I collaborated with people leaders to equip them with the tools and resources required to lead their team members; and inspired them to cultivate a high performance and engaged culture. On a day-to-day basis, I provided guidance to the HR team to ensure consistent delivery of value-added people advice and services, while overseeing recruitment to ensure the most effective talent acquisition practices and strategies are in place to meet organizational needs.

I was very fortunate to come across the opportunity as a Human Resources Business Partner at Booking.com. I was hired to launch the first Customer Service site in Canada. I was the third team member hired, and the expected growth was to employ over 400 team members in the next year or two. My responsibilities included everything people-related, such as drafting an employee handbook, setting up a WSIB account, recruitment (international and domestic), training & development, quarterly performance review, etc. I was proud that as a team, we were able to grow to over 400 team members within 1.5 years. Based on our annual engagement survey, we achieved one of the highest scores in the NORAM region. Other than focusing on the local Customer Service site, I had the opportunity to work with peers and operational leaders globally on various projects to ensure regional and global alignment. I had oversight of the local People team (Human Resources Specialist, Recruiters, Payroll).

As a Human Resources Business Partner, I strategically partnered with my client groups to resolve complex employee relations issues to minimize legal risks and create positive employer branding. Through regular and open communication with my client groups, I gained a thorough understanding of their operational needs and created HR solutions appropriate to their business. Working in a heavily unionized environment, I provided guidance and coaching to our regional Human Resources Generalists on a day-to-day basis to ensure as a team, we provided sound HR advice that was strategically aligned with the business objectives. I participated in the planning and implementation of workforce adjustment initiatives as a response to a reduction in business volume, closure of facilities, and acquisition of Revera Home Health in 2015.

I joined the team as a Human Resources Analyst to launch and run the new Pay Equity Program for the Canadian Tire retail stores across Canada. I analyzed the compensation structure of each store and produced reports with recommendations to ensure their compensation practices comply with the maintenance obligations of the Pay Equity Act. In addition, I created the policies, practices, and procedures for the stores in Ontario to ensure that the provision of their services was consistent with the principles outlined in the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service (Ontario Regulation 429/07). I further took the initiative to update the company workplace policies to ensure legal compliance (i.e., Bill 168, Bill 219).

During this 8-month co-op assignment, I was provided with the opportunity to gain exposure to different areas of HR as a Human Resources Generalist.
