  The costs and benefits of disease eradication in the “last mile”: the case of Guinea Worm Disease (GWD)Dracunculiasis (also known as guinea-worm disease) is a parasitic disease caused by Dracunculus medinensis, a long, thread-like worm. The GWD will be the first parasitic disease to be eradicated and the first disease in history to be eradicated without using medicines and vaccines. It is one of only three diseases currently targeted by WHO for eradication.
