I have been working with Filip in the lab at University Health Network, University of Toronto for 2 years. We have closely worked on a cardiovascular research project involving myocardial infarct and innate immune responses using genetically modified animal strain. Filip’s assignment was to perform multiple surgeries to establish in-vivo post-injured cardiac hemodynamics and later to work on the bench to confirm our in-vivo findings using the flow cytometry to analyze and to support our in-vivo results. I found him to be hardworking and thorough while working long hours using his commute to work on the data calculations and creating figures for our publication and numerous presentations. I could have relied on him to work on our data, while he was able to meet all our deadlines. After 2 years of interactions, I felt he was growing to become a good scientist always discussing new avenues of our project presenting fresh ideas but I also found him to be friendly and optimistic.

Filip and I have been working together on the project at University of Toronto called: Myocardial Authophagy as a Compensatory response to Doxorubicin induced cardiotoxicity. Filip’s major task was to establish post-injured cardiac hemodynamics and to compare it to the naïve controls. He was diligent, meticulous and thrived on challenges while working long hours with an unwavering productivity. When we had run into trouble with echocardiography or invasive pressure-volume hemodynamics he spent long-hours and at the end he was able to find all the answers necessary to move forward with our project. His work attendance was always punctual, he was friendly and upbeat displaying great leadership that had positive impact on lab’s Masters and Post-doctoral students.

During hands on training at Department of Cardiology Shandong University and Karolinska Institutet Collaborative Laboratory in Jinan, at Shandong, we have covered multiple surgical areas with approaches to large neck vessels, peripheral vasculature while also performing open chest surgery using rat animal model. During training, trainees were able to see multiple surgical accesses as e.g. abdominal aorta for measurements of aortic blood flow combined with access to femoral artery to measure blood pressure. Furthermore central blood pressure collected from left ventricle combined with pressure-volume measurements were also presented. After data collection we performed data analysis in the classroom, enabling attendees to have very long time for discussion of the data and surgical approaches. Show less

During courses and workshop at Dongzhimen Hospital Affiliated to Beijing University of Chinese Medicine I have provided an overview of surgical approaches in order to measure Left Ventricle pressure volume, briefly discusses theory behind the operation of the Admittance System (Theory), while most time we have spent in the laboratories to perform open chest surgery to access the LV Apex and its catheterizations (Practice session I); Percutaneous LV access using right carotid approach Practice session II. (both were successful, while obtaining good physiological data). Show less

      • Jun 2018 - Jun 2018

At State Key Lab of Respiratory Disease, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, I was fortunate to surgically instruct bright group of researchers about laboratory animal cardiovascular science, namely we have performed approaches (both accessing left ventricle) in order to collect and analyze Left ventricle pressure, ECG and PV data from rats. I feel fortunate to be part of great group of scientist and business people from the region (please see photo below)
