• ICARE Project

  Currently, the improvement of aircraft's pure fuel-based propulsive systems approach their limits in terms of thermal and propulsive efficiencies, giving us an important challenge in reducing both energy consumption and pollutant emissions. The ICARE Project proposes to investigate the design of an hybrid turboelectric propulsive system with a particular care to the integration of engines within the airframe. The advantage of such architecture is to combine very high thermal and propulsive efficiencies. The design studied is a fully integrated engine with a single gas turbine producing the electric power to run a large number of fans corresponding to a massively distributed propulsive system. The Euroglider project (which is a Dassault-Aviation, ISAE and AEDEVV partnership) consists in designing an electrical powered two-seated training glider and will last three years.
