The aim of this research was to investigate whether women with specific genetic markers are more likely to contract Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections. An additional observation was made whether women with Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection are more likely to Chlamydia trachomatis infection and thereby a double infection. Detection of genes related to the risk of Neisseria gonorrhoeae could be studied by looking to the relevance of functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes. Real-time PCR was used for detection of possible SNPs. Show less

    • The role of Vitamin D in regulating HPA-axis and depression in Multiple sclerosis.
      • Mar 2013 - Jul 2014

Low levels of CYP24A1 suggests a low bioavailability of vitamin D within a cell, and therefore a low exposure to vitamin D, which may result in a higher risk for depression. The aim of the study was whether there was a relation between CYP24A1 and CRH in MS patients and if this correlates to depression. Immunohistochemistry is used to double stain sections of hypothalamus for CRH and CYP24A1 from MS patients, with and without depression and control patients. The total expression of CYP24A and CRH in the PVN was measured and the localization of CYP24Ain CRH cells calculated using a Zeiss light microscope, Image J software and MATLAB. Show less
