To whom it may concern, I have met Ms. Fernanda De Conto as a Hubert Horatio Humphrey fellow at VCU/NIDA Program for Substance Abuse: Prevention, Treatment and Policy in the 2013/2014 team. Ms. Fernanda De Conto is a trained nurse from Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil. She earned a master's degree in nursing with a specialization in mental health from Federal University of Santa Catarina in 2012. She is the founder and coordinator of a chemical dependence treatment center in Santa Catarina, where she also provides nursing care. Ms. De Conto also works for the Florianopolis City Hall as well as the University Hospital in Florianopolis. In addition to her other duties, she serves on the steering committee for the implementation of emergency psychiatric services at the University Hospital. Ms. De Conto has a sharp mind and a lot of knowledge in nursing in general and in women and adolescents with addiction in special. Fellowship Program in the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Field at VCU. Intercultural experience sharing knowledge among professionals from different countries around the world. Great opportunity to learn from experts in the field and to enhance leadership skills and cross-cultural learning. In order to achieve my personal goals of learning about Alcohol SBIRT I had a internship at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing with a great team of professionals. Besides the program and internship I attended many classes at the university and seminars and conferences. Back to my country, I developed a project to train the health providers working in the Primary Care Health Centers in Florianópolis City in Alcohol SBIRT in order to address this major problem in Brazil. The first step was concluded and the methodology and the tools are being taken to the next step which is to train the health providers in Mental Health approach toward better outcomes in public health regarding this issue.
