I restructured a PostgreSQL database to increase overall query performance by 95% on average by both improving table structure and query creation. By optimizing query generation to create more compact commands in addition to optimizing tables through indexing and NLP keyword meaning-vector pre-generation increased site’s primary search engine performance from an average 16 second result time to less than 500 milliseconds. I worked on implemented PDF and Word document scraping code in R to extract contract-specific information over excerpts of 50+ pages for close to a hundred documents in minutes using both simple search and OCR text recognition in addition to exploring ML-assisted solutions such as AWS Textract. In addition, I wrote a near thousand-line python web spider to scrape extensive detailed information pertaining to hundreds of federal, regional, and local tenders from a dozen different websites interacting with webpages through both their source-code and JavaScript elements (with the use of Selenium) to extract not only readily available details but also download links and the contents of their associated files. I engaged in a remote externship which covered professional development and business acumen coursework providing insight into a variety of topics ranging from project management to corporate social responsibility. During this time I acquired knowledge of a large variety of corporate underpinnings not previously exposed to on the more research-oriented backend engagements to date. This virtual externship rather focused on the vanguard of corporate architecture with such subjects as customer care and communications, deciphering the delicate mechanics of customer relations, or the importance of sales integrity in retail and its relation to merchandising and the establishment of a brand image. I spent time observing the day-to-day activities of a joint-venture investment firm including, among other things, teleconferences with analysts, stock reports, and the formulation of daily briefs for clients. The externship culminated with a stock pitch based on internal stock research. Learned a great deal not just about the internal workings of investment banking, equity sales, and stock analysis but also about larger financial concepts, reading hundreds of pages of research regarding macroeconomic patterns in the Chinese mainland, industry trends, and the effects of political tension on the markets along with other topics. This material also furnished knowledge about many fundamental economic concepts such as valuation, trading, share classes, industry-specific metrics, topline and bottom-line analysis, and much more. I created code to interpret videos of experimental data and intelligently synthesize them into purely relevant chunks for the researcher. I also aided in the development and streamlining of code meant to visualize and extrapolate variables from experimental neurochemical readings. This code is available in my github repository. I built and designed 3 separate websites to illustrate different aspects of the organization’s efforts to improve life for prison inmates. I also developed a new communications workflow to better organize and compartmentalize different inquires about different facets of the business and communicate new volunteering efforts to interested parties. Finally, I maintained up to date the aforementioned websites adding new information as it became available.
