The QGGP institute (mpipz.mpg.de/stich) utilizes state-of-the-art bioinformatics with genomic and non-genomic data to create novel tools for plant breeding. Here, I apply different computational approaches to unravel the inheritance of agronomical traits to develop genomic selection models. In particular, I am focused on generating barley populations with altered recombination. -Data analysis in R and Python. Linux shell scripting and data management in HPC. -Hypothesis testing, Regressions, and Mixed models. ML: Random Forest and ANNs. -Genomic analysis of NGS big data sets - DNA (SNPs, SVs, and methylome) as well as RNA-seq. Multi-omics data integration and modeling. -Genetic/breeding tools: genomic prediction, GWAS, genetic map construction, and QTL mapping. -Teaching genetic map construction in R. Show less

Aug 2015 - May 2018
The lab is a leader in unraveling the genetic basis and evolution of the occurrence of herbicide resistance in invasive plant populations. Most of my research was on calculating the de novo mutation rate conferring herbicide resistance in plants. -Data analysis in SAS and R. -Lab (DNA extractions, PCR, qPCR, Sanger sequencing) and greenhouse work. -Teaching weed science.
