    • Intern in the Division of Decarbonisation and Sustainable Energy
      • Jan 2023 - Present

Context: The core responsibility of the division of Decarbonisation and Sustainable Energy (DSE) is to assist Member States in the transition to a sustainable energy future through the application of RE solutions for productive uses, adoption of the efficient concepts of energy use by industry, and the introduction of low-carbon technologies and processes. Within this division, the Energy Systems and Decarbonisation (ESD) unit promotes sustainable energy solutions and infrastructure for sustainable development. The unit coordinates the Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centres (GN-SEC). Through the GN-SEC, UNIDO assists regional organizations and their Member States in the establishment of regional sustainable energy centres, building regional consensus between countries and providing support for institution-building and technical program development. My scope of work was to support the regular core functions of the GN-SEC programme; project development and management within the DSE directorate; support of various ongoing activities of the ESD team. My main learning points were: - Results Based Management - Becoming acquainted with the most up-to-date technical, economic and industrial developments in the relevant fields of specialization of the GN-SEC programme - Improved coordination and communication skills in the international development context - Experience in project development and management - Learning by doing: participation in every phase of the project implementation process - Experience in working effectively within the team in a diverse and multi-cultural environment in the context of sustainable energy and sustainable development. Involved with the ESPRESSo (Enhancing Spontaneous Recovery after Stroke Study) ongoing randomised controlled trial. The trial is testing an immersive game-based AI (artificial intelligence) platform used by patients in the early stages after stroke with the aim of reducing Upper Limb impairment. - Project focused on the analysis of kinematic data collected from the participants post-stroke during a reach-to-target task with paretic and non-paretic arm. - Assisting in the development of the data processing pipeline for extracting kinematic variables in the reaching task. - Involved in data analysis (MATLAB and Python) and data reporting. - Helping with patient assessments. - Attending meetings, presentations, working alongside PhD students, post-doctoral movement neuroscientists and professors, presenting my work to the team.
