Community Service Volunteers is a charitable organisation that recruits, places and supports volunteers, I was initially a Project Manager with responsibility for developing the post, as it was a new role. It was varied and challenging one that demanded the development of processes and practices that ensured the growth and success of the project. This role was mainly about engaging people in society that would not normally be likely to engage in volunteering. This included serving prisoners, people from disadvantaged environments and included those with physical and mental disabilities. I proved that these people we not necessarily hard to engage and that all that was required was for a suitable opportunities to be offered. Through negotiations with many stakeholders a number of diverse volunteer opportunities were, and continue to be available. Then in a promoted position as national Business Manager I continued to develop opportunities that enabled individuals that wouldn’t usually be involved in mainstream activities to achieve nationally recognised accreditation for volunteering commitment and personal development thus enabling a foothold on the ladder to experience and competence for a future in employment. My role was to support regional staff to deliver this initiative, report on performance of the national project, and develop further opportunities for participants and business partners. It was while working with CSV that I achieved Project Management accreditation. Show less
