Thesis Title: “Design and Prototyping of an Energy-Aware Wireless Sensor Node for Water Pipeline Monitoring Application”. Abstract: Huge quantities of water are wasted on a daily basis worldwide because of leakages in water-transporting infrastructures causing water shortage, injuries, and so on. This problem is typically worsened by the lack of advanced monitoring systems. In this respect, wireless sensor network (WSN) seems a reliable solution for water pipeline monitoring application. In this work, we design and implement EARNPIPE, a new energy aware WSN system for water pipeline monitoring that allows rapid, reliable and accurate leak detection and localization system based on Kalman filter, on one hand, and provides an efficient sensor node architecture based on System on Chip (SoC), on the other hand. Our concern is to find a compromise between the high performance, the energy efficiency, the reliability and the low cost. Keywords: WSN, Wireless sensor node design, SoC, Energy optimization, leak detection and localization algorithm, Kalman filter.
