I am extremely grateful to have Faruk as one of my mentors, as I worked on his PhD thesis with him while an undergraduate at St. John’s University. He guided me not only on his project, but also on how to develop and execute meaningful experiments. Though I was new to the lab and had many questions, Faruk always had clear and understandable answers. Furthermore, Faruk served as a great role model for me, as he was always the first in the lab in the morning and the last to leave at night. I am indebted to Faruk for his mentorship and I wish him the best in his future endeavors.

It is a pleasure to write this recommendation for Faruk, who has been my former teacher, lab mate, and coworker. I first met Faruk when I was an undergraduate student taking his Organismic Biology lab. Every week, Faruk led an engaging lecture and dissection. His dedication to his student was evident when he would stay after labs to help students who needed further explaining. I later had the privilege to work in the same lab as Faruk for over two years. When I first started, Faruk taught me the techniques and procedures I needed to know and how to think like a researcher. His leadership in the lab brought out the best in everyone and that paid off with results. As a graduate student, I and Faruk instructed the Advanced Human Anatomy and Physiology lab. This lab course was new at the time and no one had experience teaching it. Despite this, Faruk delivered the course exceptionally and made the adaptations he needed to improve the course itself. Day in and day out, Faruk goes above and beyond for his students, his lab, and all of the people and personal endeavors in his life. He not only thinks to follow procedures, but also constantly thinks of ways to improve upon them. Faruk gets the job done but also makes sure everyone else is on track as well. His unyielding work ethic is a testament to his ability to accomplish anything he sets his mind to.
