Charities often struggle to access high quality professional development. Consequently, leaders don't get the development they need and this in turn limits the impact that charities can have in the community. To help address this issue, Plus One, a pro bono initiative, has been launched. Plus One offers high-potential, well-supported leaders employed permanently by registered charities, free access to high quality, relevant professional development opportunities usually reserved for executives at some of Australia's best regarded companies. These opportunities are generously supplied by Plus One's corporate partners, who offer places at their own internal talent development activities on a 'plus one' basis. Plus One was co-founded by Chris Wilson, Farial Ameen and David Knowles, all of whom work in the Philanthropy & Social Capital team at Koda Capital. Plus One is supported by leading corporates such as Atlassian, Westpac, Commonwealth Bank, Minter Ellison, PwC, Macquarie Bank, Koda Capital, Downer Group, Kaplan and IECL by GrowthOps.

I've been working at Koda Capital for the past few years with David Knowles and Chris Wilson in Koda’s Philanthropy and Social Capital team. I work across all aspects of the philanthropy team’s activities including helping shape the strategic direction of the team, which aims to provide advice to philanthropic individuals, non-profit and charitable organisations across a range of issues from mission and governance to fundraising and investment advice. Amongst other responsibilities, I help to drive business development activity, support client relationships and organise the many events our team hosts to drive education and capacity-building in the non-profit sector. I am also very proud to have helped launch Koda’s community engagement initiative – The Allies Program and for the program's ongoing management. Alongside David and Chris, I am pleased to be one the co-founders of Plus One, a pro-bono initiative to harness the internal training capabilities of corporations in Australia, to offer free professional development to non-profit leaders. Prior to joining Koda, I spent over 10 years, across 4 continents, in the field of public relations, providing communications advice to a range of companies predominantly in the technology sector, such as Microsoft and IBM. Subsequent to that, I founded and ran my own business - an online store, for 7 years.
