  As a GED and Alternative High School instructor, I plan and implement lessons involving a variety of subject areas and skill levels based on the needs of individual students. I assist students with a variety of online, individualized educational platforms while also planning and implementing in-person instruction. I encourage students to explore career options and to develop career goals while obtaining their GED or high school diploma. As my instructional passions are primarily through the lens of biology and STEM, I infuse my experience and expertise into lessons and expose my students to a multitude of career options involving STEM.

  As a research assistant at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, I serve as the chief liaison for SIU River Region Sustainability: A Noyce Master Teaching Fellows Program while earning a master’s degree in plant biology. As the chief liaison of the Noyce Program, I aid teachers throughout Southern Illinois and adjoining states in the enhancement of STEM education. I conduct and analyze teacher evaluations in conjunction with my master’s thesis research. I also assist teachers in conducting research within their classrooms and disseminating their findings through presentations and publications. My master’s thesis research is an ecological study of population plant health in relation to quality of Southern Illinois streams. I obtained a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with coursework ranging from basic scientific understanding to more specialized ecological courses. While earning my bachelor’s degree, I conducted undergraduate research involving taxonomic identification of macroinvertibrates as indicators of water quality in Tennessee streams.

I was responsible for field and lab data collection associated with advanced soil and crop management techniques, with a primary focus being the defense against corn and soybean diseases.
