      • Jun 2018 - Aug 2019

Conducted research in a graduate level laboratory under the guidance of doctorate students and a principal investigator. Research interests at this lab focused on how gene regulation, at the chromatin, transcriptional, and post-transcriptional level controls the stability and plasticity of cell identity, how dysregulation of these mechanisms leads to diseases (especially cancer), and how novel strategies may be developed to combat these diseases based on these particular mechanisms. Project focuses included: • Epigenetic mechanisms and liquid-liquid phase separation regulate stem cell function and tumorigenesis. • Functional role of efficient H3K4 methylation in regulating stem cell fate determination and tumorigenesis. • Chromatin regulator UTX/KDM6A and its frequent mutation in human cancers, the suppression of cancer (including leukemia) through its phase separation property, which enriches key histone modification activities in the condensates and controls the leukemia gene expression programs through multiple-levels of chromatin functions. • Specific inhibition of DPY30 activity by ASH2L-derived peptides and its suppressive properties on blood cancer cell proliferation • Hematopoietic Stem and Progenitor Cell Function through Epigenetic Regulation of Energy Metabolism and Genome Integrity Show less

    • Summer Research Fellow - Nanomedicine, Gene Delivery and Gene Therapy
      • Jun 2015 - Aug 2017

Conducted research in a graduate level laboratory under the guidance of doctorate students and a principal investigator.Research interests at this lab focused on the development of nanomedicine, molecular tools and devices through fundamental innovation for disease treatments with the goal of clinical translation from bench to bedside. Research in the laboratory was primarily based on the conjugation chemistry, peptide chemistry, combinatorial chemistry, polymer chemistry and material chemistry. Research test beds additionally involved biochemical and molecular biology, cell signaling and viability, as well as animal models for disease treatments. The lab's primary focus product-wise was the development of a novel unique transformative telodendrimer nanoplatform derived from a computational-combinatorial approach to accelerate the structure-based nanocarrier design and development for the delivery of drug, protein therapeutics, as well as gene therapeutics. Project focuses included:• Development of a structure-based nanocarrier design for drug delivery to combat nanoplatform bottle-neck and to accelerate nanomedicine development. • Measured capture of LPS (negatively charged-lipid structure) in telodendrimer nanoparticle via synergistic and multivalent charge and hydrophobic interactions for the development of NanoPus resin for sepsis treatment.• Compensation of charges and hydrophobic moieties on protein/peptide delivery system surface via precisely introduced tailored charges and hydrophobic building blocks to coat protein efficiently in-situ in aqueous solution Show less

    • Summer Research Fellow - JAK2 and Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs)
      • May 2014 - Aug 2015

Conducted research in a graduate level laboratory under the guidance of doctorate students and a principal investigator.Research was focused on understanding the molecular and epigenetic mechanisms involved in the regulation of normal hematopoiesis and hematologic malignancies.Research activities included:- Elucidating the role of oncogenic JAK2 mutation in the pathogenesis of myeloproliferative neoplasms- Investigating the role of tyrosine phosphatases (e.g., PTPN1, PTPN11) in myeloid neoplasms- Examining the role of RNA splicing factor mutations in myeloid neoplasms- Studying the effects of epigenetic modifier mutations in myeloid malignancies- Identifying new therapeutic targets and developing therapies for triple negative breast cancer Show less
