PacLeaders is a fellowship program that is aimed at preparing students for workplace readiness. This program provides college students with practical and hands on training, mentorship, networking opportunities with community leaders and allows students to develop a capstone project. This capstone project enables students to utilize their knowledge, training and skills to make a powerful impact in the community. As a graduate of the first class of Pacleaders (Previous called Pacesetters) I was moved by the hardwork and passion that drove the creation of this program. I have remained a member of the PacLeader fellowship program and have become the student coordinator. I provide mentorship and advice to the next class of young leaders. My responsibilities also includes management of the PacLeaders website and social media outlets. The passion that was put into this project can easily be seen and this passion has inspired me to help others develop themselves and achieve success in their lives and careers. As a member of an international internship program I traveled to Beijing China to work in the Health Department of Munich Re-insurance company. This valuable experience allowed me to learn from and work with students and business leaders from around the world. This internship included 3 weeks of virtual work from Hawaii and 2 weeks work in Beijing. During my time in China I was charged with researching and developing new healthcare products that would meet the needs of specified Munich Re-insurance target markets. My daily activities were focused on… ♦Collecting, analyzing and compiling data into reports and presentations♦Evaluating healthcare products in China and Hawaii to develop market research reports♦Providing new healthcare product recommendations based on international market researchDuring this internship I gave a powerful presentation to the department heads of a multinational insurance corporation. I examined and identified emerging healthcare trends, the Hawaii healthcare market and the implications of the Affordable Care Act. Working in China was an experience that has been valuable to me for many reason. I have a greater understanding of the culture, workplace and emerging business opportunities in one of the largest and fastest growing economies in the world. However, the friendships that I have made in China are the most valuable thing that I gained from this experience.
