I served as a research assistant to Professor Dina Spechler in preparation for her class "Politics of the UN." I was responsible to create a folder of information on each of the fifty-four countries in Africa that succinctly and effectively communicated the historical background of each country's present economic, social, and political reality. With this history intact, I then researched which geopolitical, regional, and national issues were of the "top priority" for that country's leadership, and organized resources on what their stance in a UN body would be in regards to these issues. Upon finishing the intensive research for these folders, I was responsible to advise students that were representing these African countries in our mock UN so that they could most effectively argue that country's stance on a given issue of interest. Responsibilities: -Conduct intensive research on each country in Africa represented in the UN -Create a folder of resources that succinctly and effectively summarized that countries' stance on a series of issues -Advise students on the perspective and opinions of governments on given issues Show less
