  The Regional Animal Protection Society (“RAPS”) is a registered charity that applies the highest standards of care and operations to advance the welfare of all animals in British Columbia. RAPS is a precious public good that promotes a no-kill mission of helping animals … and their people. Our commitment to a no-kill policy matters to us and we take it very seriously. What does that mean? It means we look at innovative ways to save as many animals as possible. We are thinking of innovative ways to do more to better the lives of animals and their people. That is why RAPS has undergone many changes in the past 6 years and the evolution is purposeful and startegic in order to save and improve the lives of even more animals. We have unique assets as an organization that allows us to deliver the best no-kill commitment of any animal organization in Canada. It looks like this: RAPS Animal Hospital + Adoption Center + Animal Sanctuaries (Canada’s largest Cat Sanctuary and our in-development Dog Sanctuary) + Social Enterprise (Thrift Stores and Hospital) + Animal Foster Program + Pet Food Bank + Unique Community Assistance Programs (partial or wholly subsidized vet care + no interest payment plans + charity gift cards + donations to the hospital). One of our biggest achievements is our TV Docuseries "PETS & PICKERS" streamed by Bell Media in Canada (CTV, Discovery, and Animal Planet) and in the USA by Warner Bros. Discovery on Animal Planet.   AS CEO and Executive Director I successfully implemented Hillel's mission, working closely with students, lay leaders, the university, and providing strategic vision, leadership, and managerial oversight for the organization and its goals and objectives. During my term as CEO, Hillel saw the most successful years in its 65 years of history, was recognized internationally as one of the best run organizations having achieved full Accreditation by the Hillel International body – the first in Canada and only one of 67 of 500 chapters to realize this achievement. Under my strategic direction, Hillel also won numerous awards for its operations, governance, stakeholder relations, programs, development and leadership capabilities. I propelled the organization to unprecedented expansion and exponential growth, multiplying the budget over one thousand percent, expanding student engagement and affiliation with the organization by over four thousand percent, expanding the organization’s presence (with new facilities) at Simon Fraser University and the University of Victoria (increasing the asset base of the organization) -- while separately raising $10 million for a major capital project for the now-completed Hillel House: Diamond Foundation Centre for Jewish Campus Life at the University of British Columbia, two years ahead of schedule and during the economic downturn of 2008. I was one of nine recipients out 500 chapter executives awarded Hillel International’s highest honors “The Richard M. Joel EXEMPLARS OF EXCELLENCE AWARD” in 2004 for “providing visionary leadership, strong University and community partnerships, incredible governance and operations, expansion of facilities and building a revitalized Vancouver Hillel at the University of British Columbia.” Today the Vancouver Hillel organization is an indispensable and essential partner providing thousands of students on multiple campuses with numerous informal education and leadership development opportunities. Raised millions of dollars in corporate sponsorships and executed sponsorship programs on a national scale. Our sponsorship properties, the Chinese New Year Festivals in Vancouver and Toronto, were recognized nationally and won top industry Canadian Awards for first place, three years in a row, for best festival and cultural events in Canada.
