This position involved working for Dr. Sara Sereno on the Carnegie Trust funded project: Emotion processing in concrete and abstract words: The effect of alexithymia. • Oct 2008 - Jan 2013

Working for several lecturers I managed the organisation, and data collection, management and analysis of various research projects.I used a variety of Psychology software packages to construct materials, with data management and analysis involving other dedicated software as well as Microsoft Excel.Topics included emotion lateralization, visuospatial cognitive style, reading development, and language perception and production. Participants in these studies ranged in age from pre-school to the elderly with some projects involving travelling to schools across Scotland to test participants.I was invited to be involved in the process of data checking and error coding as part of a UK wide project using the York Assessment of Reading for Comprehension, requiring great precision and attention to detail and processes. The last project worked on was "Growing up Scottish: The cognitive implications of speaking two regional dialects of English." with Dr. Alissa Melinger and Dr. Josephine Ross. The goal of the project was to determine whether speakers of two dialects, specifically looking at Gaelic and Scottish dialects, exhibit any of the cognitive benefits associated with bilingualism as determined by performance on several tests of executive functioning. Each test administered to each child required clear and consistent instructions to be provided, and systematic procedures being followed, involving great attention to detail being paid. For this project I organised all aspects of my visits to schools around the UK to gather the data from 7 and 8 year old primary school pupils. This included approaching schools, councils and parents and establishing strong relationships with each in order to inform them of the project, convince them of it's merit, and ultimately gain permission to attend and include pupils in the study.
