Peer Mentor

Feb 2020 - Present
I currently Intern at Say Yes Buffalo as a peer mentor. Here I mentor 4 high school seniors through their last year of high school and help smoothen their transition from high school to college. My mentees are from historically disadvantaged groups and I work hard to make sure that they have all the tools needed to ensure that they graduate high school successfully and that they have the important skills required for them to start college on a positive note. I teach my mentees time management skills, studying skills, offer them access to tutors when needed, help them with the college application process whether it be helping them write their college essay or just offering them encouragement throughout the whole process. Myself, and other mentors, also help to inform them about college and what they should expect when they get there.

Senior Page
-
Aug 2018 - Aug 2019
As a Senior Page and Leroy Coles Library, I was able to help patrons with the circulation of books/CDs/DVDs whether it was checking in books, checking them out etc.. I also worked closely with patrons on the computers if they needed help navigating Excel, applying for Jobs online as well as simply browsing the internet and figuring out the keyboard and mouse worked. My job was also to do a weekly shelf reading of books with my coworkers and make sure that books/CDs/DVDs and magazines ere in their proper positions. I was able to handle money transactions by working at the cash register while processing payments for fees incurred by the patrons from overdue charges, printing charges etc. I also helped patrons sign up for library cards as well as briefly file library card applications in their proper place.

Farm Intern
-
Jul 2017 - Dec 2017
Worked here as part of the mayor summer youth program. Worked on a non-profit urban farm on Buffalo’s Upper West Side that provides healthy food along with educational, economic and spiritual resources to neighbors. Learned basic landscaping skills, such as planting, weeding, and lawn maintenance. Sold and stocked fruits and vegetables at farmer’s markets. As a whole, we were able to provide the surrounding community with fresh fruits and vegetables. Worked here as part of the mayor summer youth program.
