Director Of Engineering

Jul 2015 - Sep 2018
I was in charge of Product Engine, a solution to manage catalogs. After Tradeshift acquired Merchantry, I started with 20 engineers based in Novosibirsk, Russia. We went through the post-merger integration in a multi-national startup having teams spread over time zones & locations. The product we built was ready for UAT with the first customer in just five months, which was an outstanding outcome given the complexity of the task. Later in 2016, I stepped up to lead the engineering site. Over the next two years, I scaled it up to 35+ people who contributed to six business areas, being ultimately responsible for people, the product, and the process. Show less

As a group of 15 engineers organized in three teams, we created the PIM Plus platform for retailers, who invited their suppliers to prepare catalogs for the retailers' e-commerce solutions. My challenge was to make it work in a more distributed setup: the product owner and CTO were in NYC, the developers in Novosibirsk in Siberia, and we had customers in the USA and Europe. We launched about ten retailers while rolling out a new release every two weeks. A fun fact: a key success factor was re-implementing the platform UI in Web 2.0 Show less

Product Owner
-
Feb 2011 - Jun 2013
I was a Product Owner for a team who created a platform to run B2C marketplaces on top of the Ixtens Item Content Management platform.Any company could dare and spin up its own Amazon or eBay clone. Some did, for example, La Redoute, a French multi-channel retailer. Teaming up with the engineering lead, we changed development to follow an Agile process. My job was maintaining the road map, stakeholder management, backlog prioritization, and providing the user stories as a Product Owner usually does. Show less

Head of Analytics & Projects Department

Jan 2010 - Feb 2011
I started with three employees and expanded the department to 13 system analysts and project managers. The system analysts supplied engineers with Software Functional Specifications for both Platform development and implementations on top of the Platform, while the project managers were running implementation projects with the customers. I was the people manager for everyone and was in charge of the pre-Agile process, which was very efficient in supporting tens of customers to go live.

I worked as a system administrator at Novosibirsk State University and a few smaller local companies. That included Linux, network, enterprise Windows, and Oracle 8i/9i areas for organizational units having 4 to 25 workstations each. Everything from hardware troubleshooting to license optimization. Besides that, I contributed to software development for the internal University's information system over the years. I was unofficially certified as Oracle 8i DBA.
