I applied and was selected to work as an intern for the AFL-CIO. Through these organizations, I was stationed in Dudley, North Carolina to assist with the Farm Labor Organizing Committee. Through this experience, I was able to first hand witness the conditions in which the agricultural labor force endures in the state of North Carolina. My job was to raise awareness and visit migrant camps to educate the workers their legal rights, and present the opportunity for them to join FLOC in fighting for safer labor laws, better quality of loving conditions, and increased wages. This was a bilingual position with 80% of the conversations spoke in Spanish. Show less
