Expedition Medic/Project Manager
-
Sep 2010 - Dec 2010
Three month expedition with Raleigh International to Costa Rica & Nicaragua. I joined the expedition as a Medic but also took on the role of Project Manager. I led teams of young people on a challenging adventure trek and built a gravity water feed system in a remote community in Nicaragua. When I applied to Raleigh I wanted to gain experience as an expedition medic, improve my leadership skills, and to further my knowledge and experience of working with young people. I was responsible for overseeing the group of venturers (volunteers aged 17-24) on three separate projects. I am also a qualified Mountain Leader and speak Spanish so I was given the opportunity to lead a trek and a community project in Nicaragua in order to utilise these skills. I also taught first aid and navigation to all the volunteers.
