Quality work at local newspapers across Trinity Mirror titles provided me the opportunity to work weekend shifts at both the Daily Record and the Sunday Mail, two of the biggest newspaper titles in Scotland. I was a regular contributor to the Sunday Mail across the 12 months proceeding it being crowned Scottish Newspaper of the Year. Selected from a pool of 40 applicants for my first reporting role at The Galloway News and Dumfries and Galloway Standard newspapers in southern Scotland, three months after graduating from university. A year later, I moved to the Wishaw Press on the country's central belt, where I spent more than two years, before moving to my hometown newspaper the Paisley Daily Express in 2013 - the only newspaper in Britain to increase sales across the 2013/14 period.
