• Human Rights Intern

  10 week human rights internship from 03/11/2022-13/01/2023. Main task was the production and presentation of workshops to groups of women and incarcerated children on human rights issues pertinent to them, the nation and the world as a whole. Presentations would run up to 1.5 hours and shown to 8 different groups per week; all shown with the assistance of a translator. Topics covered include financial and technological abuse, corruption, protest law, nutrition, english lessons and more. Tribal and ethnic identity of participants varied with most belonging to either Chaga or the Maasai. Some were illiterate and a few didn’t speak Swahili. Other work included travelling to a remote Maasai village to take vitals of the locals as well as report writing and other administrative tasks to be completed weekly. One on one interviews were regularly conducted with the women and children in order to assess their needs and provide advice. Regular discussions involved domestic violence, divorce law and general health and well-being. These interviews would also include a visit of their home and small business as a means of viewing living conditions and discussing the financials of their small business operations and the micro-loans they were repaying.
