Evaluates and determines the ecological impacts of transportation projects to the natural environment. Reviews consultant documents for quality and content. Performs wetland delineations according to the USACE protocol. Determines stream classification according to the North Carolina Stream ID criteria. Performs field investigations for protected species and habitat description to ensure compliance with State and Federal laws. Coordinates with Federal and State entities (USFWS, USACE, GADNR, TVA) to ensure appropriate steps are taken to stay within the law and provide maximum efficiency towards protection of resources and public interests. Taught biology laboratory classes to non-major students. Was tasked with making science interesting and fun while evoking a sense of awareness and understanding of the natural world. Lectures ranged from the scientific method to the angiosperm radiation, Cenozoic cooling and basic functional anatomy of mammals.
