Since joining UKFast in April, my role was mainly focussed on the key points below: - Providing outstanding customer support, and achieving a high quality feedback from customers. - Acting as a escalation point for junior engineers, and apprentices. - Involvement in CAB to discuss the changes made through change control to reduce risk of any network problems. - Authorise, peer-review and configure Layer 2 changes such as STP, Port-Types, security, vPC configuration and also includes: HSRP/VRRP configuration for HA. - Create and Troubleshoot IPSec VPN and SSL VPN Tunnels between the UKFast network device, and customer solutions. - Experience with configuring and maintaining internet transit and peering with an understanding of the wider internet. - Provide daily checks on UKFasts core network, and conduct network maintenance such as i/eBGP Peer Session Drops, T1 Transit and IX Maintenance, this is to ensure the network is running at optimised performance. - Experience with network troubleshooting at both PE/P levels. - Creating configuration for core switch infrastructure. When working at Daisy Communications, my job role was a First Line Incident Management Specialist, my roles included: - Diagnosing and Troubleshooting issues with ADSL, FTTC/FTTP, PSTN/ISDN lines. - My role also included working with Gamma products such as Horizon and SIP for VoIP products. Following this, I had a keen interest with Cisco Technologies, after some time my role was moved to a permanent offline position focussing on EFM & Leased Lines, from this my job roles then included: - Working alone or alongside Tier 3 to resolve issues ranging from a standard P2P Dedicated Leased Lines, EFMs & worldwide MPLS circuits. - Bringing to live Ethernet circuits after provisioning build. - Perform troubleshooting & changes on live Ethernet circuits; making sure if any changes are to be made this follows the correct CAB procedure. - Provide support to not only my team however, the whole business to ensure the resolution of the query is dealt with quickly and efficiently. Technical Skills: - Confident with networking protocols such as BGP, OSPF and EIGRP. - Experience with working with Cisco devices ranging from Cisco 887, 1921, 2900/1100 series and the ASR range. - Knowledge of VLANs, Spanning Tree Protocols and understanding of services such as TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP. In my apprenticeship with Maintel I learnt various skills such as:- Managing Cisco, HP & Aruba equipment either in-house or on customer site. - Pre-staging Cisco routers, HP switches and Aruba APs ready for when the equipment gets to site.- Being first line support when working with Voice (Mitel) products.- Connecting to routers externally to make changes to Cisco routers.- Troubleshooting routers/switches when returned from customers.- Being the first point of contact for customers to asses and diagnose the fault(s) that are occurring on-site.- Teaching customer IT teams how to resolve certain issues without contacting us or taking certain procedures to diagnose the issue before it is logged to us.
