  Redox-flow batteries for remote island communities The redox flow battery is a cheap energy storage solution, which can incorporate environmentally benign redox couples offering safer, more sustainable alternatives to conventional lead-acid batteries. Fuel cells convert chemical energy from a fuel - typically hydrogen and oxygen - into electricity leaving only water as a byproduct. Both of these energy storage and conversion solutions require catalysts, which speed up the processes happening at their electrodes, increasing efficiency.
